In a statement sent to AllThingsD, Amazon said:

"Wednesday was the $199 Kindle Fire HD's biggest day of sales since launch and up 3x week over week"

Hajek gives us a look at how the 7.85-inch screen may look and also introduces a new concept: colored backs, just like the new iPod touch.
